Last post I was talking about a world without oil (talk about a double-take), and this one I’m talking about cars – specifically the new technology being developed to make our relationship with the car a bit more social. Read an interesting story (and some excellent pictures to go with it) of the advances made in auto technology by major auto manufacturers operating in … Silicon Valley.
One thing that I really liked was autonomous driving. Driving down to the US regularly and aided with cruise control, I often wonder why cars can’t drive themselves today? GPS is already here, the techology is there (radar) and LIDAR (see Wikipedia for an explanation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LIDAR) and with driver assisted control we should have autonomous cars already. We have cars that can park themselves, so what’s taking so long?
Have a read at the article found on Popular Science site to show you the technology behind vehicles and how high-end vehicles today are more powerful and intelligent that commercial airlines. Seriously.
